Deutschmeister monument in Vienna’s 1st district. The ceremonial unveiling of the first major monument of the Danube Monarchy, which was not dedicated to a single person but to a troop unit, took place on September 29, 1906. It depicts important events from the history of the regiment. The Battle of Zenta is depicted with the relief “Baptism of Fire at Zenta (1697)”. The second main epoch of the regiment is depicted in the relief Count Soro at Kolin on the back of the memorial. The two groups of figures, The Grenadier of Landshut (1809) and The Loyal Comrade (1814), symbolize the third main epoch as well as heroism and brotherhood in arms. Vindobona sits at the front with the coat of arms of Vienna. At the back of the monument is a depiction of the imperial eagle with captured trophies. The main figure of the Deutschmeister monument depicts a flag bearer in modern uniform striding forward. The monument was created by Johannes Benk.
